Summary
[edit]

Note: For M1 Macs, this operator only works starting with build 2022.33910.

The Audio Render CHOP uses the Steam Audio SDK to spatially render audio based on the full transforms (translation, rotation, scale) of a listener and an audio source. The Audio Render CHOP takes a mono sound audio source as input, and spatially outputs the sound in the format specified from the Output Format parameter. The number of channels outputted by the Audio Render CHOP depends on the Output Format.

You specify a 3D component for the transform of the listener, plus a 3D component for the transform of a source.

The sample rate of the output is determined by the audio source, which must be either 44100 or 48000.

Look at the Audio Render CHOP example in Help -> Operator Snippets.

See also Oculus Audio CHOP.

Parameters - Setup Page

Active active - Turns the Audio Render on or off.

Listener Object COMP listenerobject - A COMP that represents the listener. Must be a COMP that contains transform data, such as a Geometry or Camera COMP.

Source Object COMP sourceobject - A COMP that represents the source of the sound. Must be a COMP that contains transform data, such as a Geometry or Camera COMP.

Output Format outputformat - - The output format of the audio: Binaural, Stereo, Quadraphonic Surround, 5.1 Surround, 7.1 Surround, Custom Setup, or Ambisonics (AmbiX). Ambisonics is a format for encoding three-dimensional 360 degree audio. The Ambisonics format used in the Audio Render CHOP is the 3rd order SN3D format consisting of 16 encoded channels (WXYZ, RSTUV, KLMNOPQ) that define the sphere of sound. Custom Setup requires use of the Mapping Table.

  • Binaural Binaural -
  • Stereo stereo -
  • Quadraphonic Surround quadraphonic -
  • 5.1 Surround fiveone -
  • 7.1 Surround sevenone -
  • Custom Setup custom -
  • AmbiX ambix -

Attenuation attenuation - Attenuate the sound based on relative distance.

Mapping Table mappingtable - A DAT Table that specifies the various speakers in the setup and their position. The Table must have 3 columns named x, y, z. Each row specifies an individual speaker, and the 3 columns specify its position. Used with the Custom Setup Output Format. The mapping table will create one channel per row.

Parameters - Common Page

Time Slice timeslice - Turning this on forces the channels to be "Time Sliced". A Time Slice is the time between the last cook frame and the current cook frame.

Scope scope - To determine which channels get affected, some CHOPs use a Scope string on the Common page. See Pattern Matching.

Sample Rate Match srselect - - Handle cases where multiple input CHOPs' sample rates are different. When Resampling occurs, the curves are interpolated according to the Interpolation Method Option, or "Linear" if the Interpolate Options are not available.

  • Resample At First Input's Rate first - Use rate of first input to resample others.
  • Resample At Maximum Rate max - Resample to the highest sample rate.
  • Resample At Minimum Rate min - Resample to the lowest sample rate.
  • Error If Rates Differ err - Doesn't accept conflicting sample rates.

Export Method exportmethod - - This will determine how to connect the CHOP channel to the parameter. Refer to the Export article for more information.

  • DAT Table by Index datindex - Uses the docked DAT table and references the channel via the index of the channel in the CHOP.
  • DAT Table by Name datname - Uses the docked DAT table and references the channel via the name of the channel in the CHOP.
  • Channel Name is Path:Parameter autoname - The channel is the full destination of where to export to, such has geo1/transform1:tx.

Export Root autoexportroot - This path points to the root node where all of the paths that exporting by Channel Name is Path:Parameter are relative to.

Export Table exporttable - The DAT used to hold the export information when using the DAT Table Export Methods (See above).
